GTA 6 Won’t Launch Until It’s Perfect, According to Former Rockstar Dev

Former Rockstar developer Obbe Vermeij believes Rockstar is in no rush to release GTA 6, citing a lack of competition and the game’s potential to remain a top seller for years. Vermeij, who worked as a technical lead at Rockstar North before leaving 15 years ago, shared his thoughts on Twitter, clarifying that he has no insider knowledge but speculating that Rockstar won’t commit to a 2025 release until early that year. He emphasized that Rockstar will only release the game when they’re fully satisfied with it, regardless of any marketing schedules or teaser trailers.

In a follow-up tweet, Vermeij also speculated that the PC version of GTA 6, while not yet officially confirmed, might not arrive until 2027, based on Rockstar’s previous release patterns. He dismissed the idea that Rockstar is under pressure from its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, noting that the publisher has consistently allowed Rockstar the creative freedom to decide their own timelines.

Vermeij’s comments highlight the long-term potential of GTA 6, drawing parallels to GTA 5, which has remained hugely popular thanks to multiple re-releases and the ongoing success of GTA Online. The upcoming game is expected to be one of the biggest releases in gaming history, with industry insiders predicting it could reshape interest in the medium on a global scale.

Interestingly, while offering his perspective on GTA 6, Vermeij is also working on a new project that departs significantly from the violent, open-world formula that defines the GTA series.

Meanwhile, some tech analysts have speculated that while GTA 6 may boast stunning visuals on the PS5 Pro, it might not achieve 60fps performance on the console, though nothing has been confirmed.
