All the Platforms GTA 6 Will Launch On
Rockstar Games is finally sharing details about the highly-anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6. For years, there have been countless rumors and much speculation regarding the game’s release date and available platforms. Now, the studio has confirmed these details along with the release of an official trailer.
The trailer introduces the game’s Bonnie and Clyde-esque duo, Lucia and Jason, and offers a glimpse of the game’s Florida-inspired setting, Leonida. This location features a revamped Vice City, maintaining its iconic 80s vibe from GTA: Vice City and GTA: Vice City Stories, while incorporating modern elements like social media clips showcasing some of the characters players will encounter.
GTA 6 Set to Launch Exclusively on Current-Gen Consoles
The trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 confirmed a 2025 release date but did not specify which platforms the game would be available on. However, a press release from Take-Two Interactive has clarified that GTA 6 will be exclusive to current-gen consoles, specifically the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This decision isn’t unexpected, as the release will come nearly five years after the launch of these consoles.
Rockstar’s last major release, Red Dead Redemption 2, already tested the limits of last-gen hardware with its highly detailed and immersive open world in 2018. Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to run on a more advanced version of Rockstar’s proprietary RAGE engine, suggesting that the older PS4 and Xbox One systems would not be able to support the game’s technical demands.
PC Gamers Await Confirmation of GTA 6 Release
The press release did not mention a PC release, suggesting that Grand Theft Auto 6 will arrive on PC at a later date. When PC Gamer contacted Rockstar for a PC release date, they were told, “all of the information currently available is in the statement.”
This news will likely disappoint many GTA fans who hoped Rockstar would move away from the console-exclusivity period. However, it aligns with the release pattern of Rockstar’s major titles over the past decade, such as GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. Both games launched on consoles approximately a year before their PC versions, which included additional features to compensate for the wait. If Rockstar maintains this pattern, PC gamers might expect Grand Theft Auto 6 to be available sometime in 2026.
