Sony Locks Down GTA 6 Marketing Rights Ahead of 2025 Launch

A recent report suggests that Sony has secured exclusive marketing rights for Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), positioning the game prominently alongside the PS5 and the upcoming PS5 Pro. Given the long-standing partnership between Sony and Rockstar Games, which dates back to the PS2 era, this collaboration isn’t entirely surprising.

Few franchises have achieved the global reach of GTA, which had sold over 410 million units by September 2023. With anticipation building for GTA 6, the next installment is expected to significantly boost those numbers. Although the game is slated for a fall 2025 release, fans are eagerly awaiting more information, often speculating about “clues” regarding when Rockstar might drop the next big reveal, though nothing concrete has emerged yet.

Rumors about the next GTA 6 trailer are also circulating, with recent speculation suggesting that Sony has secured exclusive marketing rights. According to industry insider MAGG, who shared details on the XNC Podcast, Sony has “locked down” a deal allowing them to market the game exclusively with the PS5 and PS5 Pro. MAGG clarified that this agreement won’t affect GTA 6’s availability on Xbox Series X/S, but it may limit the game’s marketing presence on Microsoft platforms.

Sony is reportedly planning a heavy marketing push for GTA 6 on the PS5 Pro. MAGG also hinted that the second GTA 6 trailer could feature the PlayStation logo and possibly debut at the 2024 Game Awards. While MAGG wasn’t certain about the timing, insider RedGamingTech echoed the claim, suggesting Sony might leverage GTA 6 as part of its larger strategy to promote the PS5 Pro. Both insiders advise taking this information with a grain of salt until official confirmation comes through.

If Sony has indeed secured exclusive marketing rights for GTA 6, it could provide a substantial advantage, associating the game with PlayStation in consumers’ minds. This partnership might even lead to GTA 6 being bundled with PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles, which could attract first-time buyers to the platform. Speculation has also surfaced about the PS5 Pro potentially offering a mode for GTA 6 to run at 60fps, though this remains unconfirmed.
