Take-Two CEO Rules Out Day-One Subscription for GTA 6

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick recently clarified the company’s stance on launching its major titles on subscription services like Xbox Game Pass. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Zelnick explained that while offering a big game on a subscription service at launch might boost short-term player numbers for those platforms, it doesn’t align with Take-Two’s long-term strategy for its blockbuster releases.

With a packed release schedule that includes 15 major titles planned for 2026 and 2027, headlined by the highly anticipated GTA 6, along with several indie, mobile, and remastered games, Zelnick emphasized that Take-Two’s focus is on delivering hit games that outperform the market. He expressed confidence in the company’s ability to consistently produce successful titles.

“There are a few positive industry trends that work in our favor,” Zelnick said, “but our main goal remains creating blockbuster hits, and I believe we’re well-positioned to do just that.”

In other news, Zelnick also touched on the early mixed reviews of the upcoming Borderlands movie during a Q1 earnings call. He urged fans to give the film a fair chance, acknowledging the hard work put into its production. However, he also noted that the movie’s reception is unlikely to significantly affect Take-Two or the broader Borderlands franchise financially.
