Former Rockstar Games Developer Breaks Silence on GTA 6
Former Rockstar Games developer Obbe Vermeij recently shared his insights on the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, suggesting that the new game may not differ drastically from its predecessor, GTA 5. Currently in development for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, GTA 6 is slated for a 2025 release.
The GTA franchise, renowned for its massive global success, is preparing for its first mainline installment in over a decade. The first trailer, released in December 2023, quickly racked up over 200 million views on YouTube, building immense excitement. However, details about the game have been sparse since then. In a recent interview with SanInPlay, Vermeij, who worked on iconic titles like GTA: San Andreas and GTA 4, shared his thoughts on what fans can expect.
Vermeij advised fans to temper their expectations, predicting that GTA 6 won’t be “wildly different” from GTA 5. He attributed this to the relatively modest advancements in console hardware since the last generation. While the transition from PS1 to PS2 was “enormous,” he explained that the leap from PS4 to PS5 has been less dramatic. According to Vermeij, this smaller technological jump limits the scope for revolutionary changes in the upcoming game.
Former Rockstar Dev Still Optimistic About GTA 6
Despite his caution about major differences, Vermeij remains optimistic. He acknowledged that Rockstar Games has still “taken it even further” with GTA 6 and believes it will be “the best game out there.” Reflecting on the trailer, Vermeij was particularly impressed by a scene featuring a bustling beach filled with characters engaging in various activities, which showcased Rockstar’s attention to detail. He also expressed excitement for the return to the Miami-inspired Vice City, saying he loves the “Miami vibe” and is eager to explore the new game.
With just one official trailer out so far, fans are eagerly awaiting more updates on GTA 6. As the game is expected to launch in 2025, another trailer could drop later this year, likely creating just as much buzz as the first one.
